To follow this guide, your system must be running OneView v4.3.1-126 or newer software.
OneView can be configured to email system event notifications to a list of recipients, either at the time the event occurs or as part of an event summary sent out at a specified interval.
1. Go to the Notifications section by clicking on the bell in the upper right corner.
2. Click on 'Emails'.
3. Slide the 'Mail enabled:' switch to the ON position and you will see all the email options appear.
(NOTE: All unsaved changes will be shaded with a slightly darker background color)
4. Enter the credentials for your mail server and add at least one recipient in the 'Recipients' section.
Although Gmail was used for the examples below, you are free to use any email service you choose.
Please note though, that sending email notifications through a Gmail account will require you to generate an app password beforehand.
Also, there may be some instances where smtp.gmail.com will not work. In this case, use the actual IP address instead. To determine this, open up a terminal (Mac/Linux) or the command line (Windows) and enter the command: ping smtp.gmail.com. Then use the IP address that appears below instead of 'smtp.gmail.com' (i.e. 74.125.195.108).
5. Click the 'Save' button at the bottom and then test your server settings by clicking on 'Test mail settings'.
Your mail settings are confirmed if you receive the "Mail sent successfully" message (see below).
6. If desired, you can add a backup mail server by sliding the 'Use backup server:' switch to the ON position and filling in all of the relevant settings. Don't forget to test it by clicking 'Test backup mail settings'.
7. If the listed recipients do not receive the test email in their inbox (see examples below), make sure to check the spam folder and change the spam settings accordingly.
8. Set the 'Send interval', which is the interval at which non-urgent notification emails will be sent out to recipients. If left at the default, a notification summary will be emailed to recipients once per hour.
9. Choose which types of events will trigger a notification email. If set to 'Urgent', the send interval will be ignored and recipients will be immediately notified of the event that has occurred. The 'Event name' corresponds to the 'Event' column in the notifications page. By default, all events are enabled and 'Fiber Trunk Status' is marked as 'Urgent'.
Please note that the 'STP State Change' event type will not occur unless spanning tree and data collection have both been enabled.
Supplemental Notes
If your system has been given a name in OneView (see the 'General' section in the 'System: Config' user guide article), it will be appended to your notification email's subject line in square brackets (see example below).
Emails have the date, event type, and event message in the body (see examples below). To ensure that event time stamps are accurate, make sure that your clock is set correctly in OneView (see the 'General' section in the 'System: Config' user guide article).
