The Optical Ports section on the left-hand side of the screen displays a quick summary of the state of all of the ONS-S8 Aggregation Switch's optical ports (OPT 1 - OPT 8).
The 5 possible states are:
- active
The laser is on and Edge Switches are connected. - link down
The laser is on, but no Edge Switches are detected or it is in redundant protect mode and no light is detected in the fiber. - disabled
The laser has been manually disabled. - protect
The laser is off but detecting light in the fiber connection. - no SFP
There is no SFP physically plugged into the OPT port.
In a redundant system, where one of the system's ONS-S8 Aggregation Switches is completely in active mode (passing traffic on all of its lasers) and the other ONS-S8 Aggregation Switch is completely in protect mode (in standby and not passing traffic on any of its lasers), the systems' Optical Ports sidebar displays would look like this:
