IMPORTANT:
Before you get started, make sure to gather together any unused accessories that came with your ONS-NC600 and Hybrid Aggregation Switch and store them in a safe place, just in case you need them later.
1. Connect AC Power to ONS-NC600 and Aggregation Switch
Power on the ONS-NC600 and the supported Optigo Edge Switch that you've chosen to use for your Aggregation Switch (e.g. ONS-C810p).
(NOTE: You may have to press the ONS-NC600’s black power switch the first time it is plugged in)
2. Connect Ethernet Cables for Management
Connect a short Ethernet cable between the port marked 'MGMT' on the ONS-NC600 and the designated management port on your chosen Aggregation Switch (see table below).
Model | Port | |
ONS-C401i | 4 | |
ONS-C801pi | 8 | |
ONS-C810p |

ONS-CR2440XP | 24 | |
ONS-C4801p | 48 |
Please refer to the article Connecting a Hybrid System, which contains connection diagrams for all of the supported Aggregation Switches, and the article Hybrid Topologies.
Connect an Ethernet cable from your computer directly to port 1 on your Aggregation Switch. You will use this computer for initial OneView configuration.
3. Configure Computer’s Network Settings
Configure your computer’s network settings as follows:
IP Address: 192.168.10.101
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.10.1
4. Login to Optigo OneView™
Enter https://192.168.10.254 in the address field of your Chrome web browser and hit enter.
(NOTE: Only Google’s free Chrome web browser is officially supported)
In the 'Username' field, enter the default username admin.
In the 'Password' field, enter the default admin password on the ONS-NC600's LCD display (see example photo below).
NOTE: If the LCD display does not contain the default admin password, use the password _admin_.
5. Change Admin Password
Click on the menu icon (3 horizontal lines in the top right), select Settings, and then go to the Change Password section.
Enter a hard-to-guess password that only you will remember, and then click Submit.
IMPORTANT:
Do not skip this step, because the default password (if present) will remain on the LCD screen until it has been changed.
6. Set the Date and Time
Navigate to System > Config > General and click the 'Edit' button in the Date and Time section to set the correct time.
Make sure to change the date and the timezone. An NTP server list is optional.
7. Upgrade to the Latest Software
If you haven't already done so, download the latest ONS-NC600 software package and put a copy of it on the computer connected to the Aggregation Switch.
Navigate to System > Version > Unit Versions, click the Upgrade Unit button, and follow the prompts to complete the software upgrade.
(NOTE: Don't forget to click 'Next' after the file has been uploaded)
8. Configure Network Settings and Management VLAN
Navigate to the Ports page and change the VLAN for port d2 on the Aggregation Switch (OPTG-ASW) to a unique value that will only be used for OneView management (e.g. 10).
Navigate to System > Config > Management IP.
Configure the ONS-NC600’s IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway to be compatible with your BMS network or dedicated management computer.
Set the VLAN ID to the same value you used for port d2 on the Aggregation Switch (e.g. 10).
For added security, we recommended not using common default subnets for your management interface or the devices connected to your Edge Switches (e.g. 192.168.1.x, 192.168.0.x, etc).
(NOTE: The values above are just examples)
Save your settings and then connect your BMS network or dedicated management computer to port 2 on the Aggregation Switch.
If you make a mistake and accidentally lose access to OneView, please refer to the following article.
IMPORTANT:
ONLY connect your BMS network or dedicated management computer through a port on your Aggregation Switch, NEVER to an Edge Switch port.
Log into OneView™ again using the new management IP address.
9. Connect SFPs and Edge Switches
Power down your Aggregation Switch, insert an approved SFP module into its OPT port, and then power it back on again.
Plug two approved SFP modules into the OPT and OPT-R ports of the first Edge Switch in the daisy chain and then power it up.
Connect the SFP module in the Aggregation Switch's OPT port to the first Edge Switch's OPT port using your chosen medium (copper or fiber).
(NOTE: If your Edge Switch does not have an 'OPT-R' port, just use the next consecutive port after the OPT port)
(NOTE: ONLY insert SFP modules into an Edge Switch's SFP ports if you intend to connect them to another Edge Switch)
Confirm that the next Edge Switch in the chain is powered off before inserting the SFP modules into its OPT and OPT-R ports.
Then connect its OPT port to the OPT-R port of the previous switch using your chosen medium (copper or fiber), and power it on.
(NOTE: If your Edge Switch does not have an 'OPT-R' port, just use the next consecutive port after the OPT port)
Repeat this process until the very last Edge Switch in the chain has been connected and powered on.
If you're on version 4.7.0 or later, you can make use of the 'discovery' VLAN mode on non-SFP ports*. Navigate to the Ports page via the sidebar and configure the desired port with VLAN mode 'discovery'. Then connect that port to the OPT port of the next switch you wish to connect, as per "FROM the previous switch" in the image above.
* The ONS-C401i, ONS-C801pi, and ONS-C1601pi do not officially support discovery VLAN mode due to SFP incompatibilities with their 100 Mbps ports.
See this article for more detail on the different ways to connect a Hybrid system.
10. Register Edge Switches
Navigate to the Edge Switches page.
Confirm that all Edge Switches have automatically registered and are showing up as connected (green link icon).
(NOTE: It may take some time, depending on the number of edge switches)
IMPORTANT:
If any edge switches fail to register or go offline after initially registering, click on the 'Topology' button (above the 'Edge Switches' list) and then click the 'Check All SFP Ports' button in the topology window.
11. Configure Router
If you will be managing a supported router via OneView, please read the app note Router Management with OneView before proceeding any further.
You're all set! Now you can configure and manage all of your Optigo Edge Switches from OneView™.
