IMPORTANT:
Before you get started, make sure to gather together any unused accessories that came with your ONS-NC600 and ONS-S8 and store them in a safe place, just in case you need them later.
1. Connect Ethernet Cables
Connect a short Ethernet cable between the management ports (both marked ‘MGMT’) on the ONS-S8 Aggregation Switch and its companion ONS-NC600 Network Controller.
Connect port D5 on the ONS-S8 directly to a computer with no other network connections. This is the computer you will use for the initial set up of your ONS-S8 system.
2. Connect AC Power to ONS-NC600 and ONS-S8
With its two red power switches in the ON position (see photo below), connect both of the ONS-S8’s included AC power cables to the AC power inputs on the back.
Then immediately connect the ONS-NC600’s included AC power cable to its rear AC power input.
(NOTE: You may have to press the ONS-NC600’s black power switch the first time it is plugged in)
3. Configure Computer’s Network Settings
Configure your computer’s network settings as follows:
- IP Address: 192.168.10.101
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Default Gateway: 192.168.10.1
4. Log in to Optigo OneView™
Enter https://192.168.10.254 in the address field of your Chrome web browser and hit enter.
(NOTE: Only Google’s free Chrome web browser is officially supported)
In the 'Username' field, enter the default username admin.
In the 'Password' field, enter the default admin password on the ONS-NC600's LCD display (see example photo below).
NOTE: If the LCD display does not contain the default admin password, just use _admin_.
5. Change Admin Password
Click on the menu icon (3 horizontal lines in the top right), select Settings, and then go to the Change Password section.
Enter a hard-to-guess password that only you will remember, and then click Submit.
IMPORTANT:
Do not skip this step, because the default password (if present) will remain on the LCD display until it has been changed.
6. Set the Date and Time
Navigate to System > Config > General and click the 'Edit' button in the Date and Time section to set the correct time.
Make sure to change the date and the timezone. An NTP server list is optional.
7. Upgrade to the Latest Software
If you haven't already done so, download the latest ONS-NC600 software package and put a copy of it on the computer connected to the ONS-S8.
Navigate to System > Version > Unit Versions, click the Upgrade Unit button, and follow the prompts to complete the software upgrade.
(NOTE: Don't forget to click 'Next' after the file has been uploaded)
8. Configure Network Settings and Management VLAN
Navigate to the Ports page and change the VLAN for port d6 to a unique value that will only be used for OneView management (e.g. 10).
Navigate to System > Config > Management IP.
Configure the management IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway to be compatible with your BMS network or dedicated management computer.
Set the VLAN ID to the same value you used for port d6 (e.g. 10) in the previous step.
For added security, we recommended not using common default subnets for your management interface or the devices connected to your Edge Switches (e.g. 192.168.1.x, 192.168.0.x, etc).
(NOTE: The values above are just examples)
Save your settings and then connect your BMS network or dedicated management computer to port D6 on the ONS-S8.
If you make a mistake and accidentally lose access to OneView, please refer to the following article.
IMPORTANT:
ONLY connect your BMS network or dedicated management computer through a D-port on your ONS-S8, NEVER to an Edge Switch port.
Log into OneView™ again using the new management IP address in your Chrome web browser.
9. Connect Fiber Network
Insert an ONS-SX-SFP into each OPT port that will be used on the ONS-S8.
(NOTE: ONLY insert SFP modules into SFP ports if they are going to be connected to something)
Confirm that all Edge Switches have been powered on and are connected to their fiber networks (i.e. fiber cables, splitters, and ONS-CX-SFP's).
Uncap a fiber cable and insert it into its correct ONS-SX-SFP on the ONS-S8. Repeat until all fiber cables have been connected.
IMPORTANT:
NEVER plug an ONS-CX-SFP into ANY of the ONS-S8 OPT ports!
ONLY the ONS-SX-SFP is permitted.
10. Register Edge Switches
Navigate to the Edge Switches screen.
Confirm that all Edge Switches have been automatically registered.
(NOTE: It may take some time, depending on the number of Edge Switches in your system)
11. Configure Router
If you will be managing a supported router via OneView, please read the app note Router Management with OneView before proceeding any further.
You're all set! Now you can configure and manage all of your Optigo Edge Switches from OneView™.
