Finding your API key (Visual BACnet)

In order to automatically upload from one of Optigo's BACnet capture tools (hardware or software) to your target monitoring node on Visual BACnet, you will need an API key. There are 2 locations you will find it, depending on how you are using Visual BACnet.

Site Monitoring

In Site Monitoring, each monitoring node has an API key associated with it. You will need to create a monitoring node, or click into an existing one. Monitoring nodes have a zig-zag symbol (pictured below) beside the site name.

Once in the monitoring node, click the "Tools" tab.

In the "Tools" section you will find the API key for that node, and a link to the PC-based Capture Tool.
NOTE: Each monitoring node has a unique API key, and should be associated with a unique capture tool to ensure consistent data. 

 

Troubleshooting

In troubleshooting, API keys allow you to automatically upload files into a single folder, helping you to follow network health trends over time. 

If you login to the Troubleshooting screen (or click Troubleshooting on the left hand menu), you will see a list containing capture files, capture folders, or a mix of both, depending on your preference.

In order to obtain an API Key, you will need to open a folder (create one if none exist already). 

Once you have opened the folder, in the top bar you will see the "API Key" button. Click on it.

A box will appear with the API Key generated for that folder. Copy it and paste it into your capture tool's API Key field.
