Overview
- Also look at the Hop Count, more to identify incorrectly initialized Hop Count values.
- Hop Count allows the packet to travel through as many routers as the Hop Count value.
- Device should be configured to send a first packet with 255 hops. Each time it passes through a router, one “hop” is docked. It rarely goes below 250.
- Some manufacturers configure using only four bits, so it starts at 15. This violates the BACnet standard.
- Circular Network will always trigger a Low Hop Count.
- Low Hop Count is always a warning, it never fails.
Why it fails
- A factory misconfiguration
- A Circular Network (see if that check failed)
How to fix it
- Check to see if the Circular Network diagnostic check failed.
- If not, identify the device, call the vendor, and complain. It must be reconfigured by your vendor.
